What’s causing your hip to drop?
Strength from the deep hip muscles
These are stabilisers that keep the hip compact in its socket.
Strength from the bigger and more superficial hip muscles.
These muscles drive power. If these muscles are weak, power will have to come from elsewhere less efficient. This creates compensation.
Strength from muscles holding the pelvis stable. This would be your core.
More specifically, this refers to the deepest layer of the core. This layer has connections with the spine, ribs, scapular, diaphragm and the pelvic floor.
The easiest way to recognise any form of weaknesses here is to get down onto all fours.
If you are unable to dissociate and move the various parts of the spine independently, your core needs work.
Strength that forms the greater hip joint.
This includes muscles supporting the sacrum.
Strength from the upper body.
A slouched head and shoulders place unnecessarily greater demands upon the hip and pelvic muscles.
But what’s causing yours to drop?
The answer to this requires a detailed assessment of your physical structure, movements and strengths.
Of course, in theory, it’s easy to fix. But in reality, it’s hard. Because strength can only come from within. Because strength can only come from within. Until the day comes when you just have to put on a suit that is calibrated for effective motion for your genetics and you just have to run in it…
And we can only dream.. Research understanding gait and how to actually make a change to it remains very lacking. And besides, the joy of this self discovery would be lost upon us if AI can takeover.
Moreover AI can never takeover the rehab work needed to be done by the individual. Rewiring of our movement patterns take time and dedication, and lots of awareness of what’s going on with ourselves. AI can’t do this for us. It can feel for us. It can think for us but it can’t help us to feel. It can point us towards where to work on but alot of our motivations and hence actions, stem from our emotions, psychology, beliefs, somatosensory feelings.
Understanding why our hip drops is only the first step to a greater change. However, this understanding is not insignificant. This awareness of our hip behavior will eventually build into a greater piece of understanding of your body.
